INTRODUCTIONS AND INFORMATION
ABOUT
Hello. My name is Dean McCullin, also known on social media by my username Dingus_Online. I’m a digital illustrator/ comics artist, I work on my webcomic Glasses (the Comic), which I post every other week. I also make other one off illustrations and comics of varying styles. I like to use mixed media with photographs as backgrounds in my work and I specialize in character design at least I like to think so. As an artist I try to express myself by making art that I feel is honest to myself even when it’s uncomfortable or explicit without losing sight of having a sense of humor, as Marshall McLuhan said, "a perceptive or incisive joke can be more meaningful than platitudes lying between two covers".
I like combining and taking inspiration from various things I see into my work, images, references, words, anything and everything. This process often like I am vomiting all of my experiences onto the page into one acidic collage of all of my experiences. I understand my art is nothing more than the conglomeration of all that i have seen in the world past and present, though there is a lot of the world I have yet to see, ultimately making my perspective limited, I do hope you, the viewer, understand that my art my art is an ever evolving thing. Though I do admit that I am often spineless, cowardly, stupid and hungry, usually all at once, I do try my best to try and make my art say something, but I’m not there yet.
MY WORK
Glasses (the Comic) (my comic)
My main webcomic series. Following Glasses (the character), a girl attending university, trying to make a living as a comics artist, working on her own comic, “Heaven is Hell”, all while dealing with her own anxieties and insecurities as an artist. She also finds herself surrounded by various other characters with various quirks, such as KC (her sportsy sister) Gallagher (her sisters boyfriend) Tracy (a cynical librarian) and Badman (a ???) as well as host of other characters. I’ve provided some links to where the comic is hosted, though be warned, comics may contain explicit themes and images depending on when you are reading this.

Other Work/ Inspirations.
Aside from Glasses I also work on other illustrative work. I often do fanart for video games or other series that I enjoy, such as Godzilla, Resident Evil, Persona, etc. I take inspiration from a variety of different artists, including Yusuke Nakamura, Maasaki Yuasa, Keita Takahashi, Rodney Greenblatt, Jamie Hewlett, Bryan Lee O Malley, Junji Ito, Kazuo Umezu, Hayao Miyazaki, Bengus, and Kinu Nishimura to name a few.

Hey, Dean! I love how you mix all your experiences into your art I feel it keeps it more personal and relatable! It’s super cool that you keep it honest and funny. Your style with mixed media and character design is really imaginative.(not sure if thats the word I’m looking for) I really enjoyed glasses! I’m excited to see more of your other illustrations and comics.
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of incorporating narrative into your art work. That is something that I try to do as well. I think it is really cool how personal you make the narrative!
